Trafficking in Human Beings is a complex and evolving criminal phenomenon that requires a combination of operational expertise, technological innovation, and continuous awareness among frontline practitioners. Within the framework of the VANGUARD project, training activities and end-user engagement play a key role in strengthening prevention and response capabilities.
The Hellenic Police actively contributes to the project by sharing operational knowledge and practical experience in identifying and investigating trafficking-related activities. In particular, this contribution focuses on providing indicators and operational insights to support the detection and recognition of suspicious behaviours and potential trafficking incidents, both in online environments and during live operational activities.
This practical input supports the development and evaluation of tools and methodologies designed to assist end users in identifying trafficking indicators more effectively. At the same time, the training activities implemented under the project help familiarise practitioners with innovative technological solutions, operational workflows, and investigative approaches, enhancing situational awareness and operational preparedness. An important aspect of these trainings is the combination of technological capabilities with human-centric understanding. Beyond the technical use of tools, participants improve their ability to recognise behavioural patterns, assess contextual information, and better understand the societal dimensions of human trafficking.
Through its participation in VANGUARD, the Hellenic Police contributes to strengthening cross-sector cooperation, knowledge sharing, and operational readiness at both the national and European levels. The project demonstrates the importance of combining advanced technologies with practical law enforcement expertise and awareness-driven approaches to disrupt Trafficking in Human Beings more effectively.
