On 28 May 2026, the Spanish Home Secretary, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, visited researchers at the EUROARAB Foundation, part of the University of Granada to learn more about their work in the fields of preventing violent extremism, combating human trafficking, and addressing organised crime. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for leading researchers to present the outcomes of the Horizon Europe VANGUARD project to one of Spain’s most senior government officials. Discussions focused on the project’s contribution to strengthening prevention strategies, enhancing international cooperation, and developing innovative tools to support security practitioners and policymakers across Europe.
Researchers highlighted key findings from the Spanish context, as well as the state-of-the-art technologies and analytical capabilities currently being developed through the VANGUARD project. The visit underlined the importance of collaboration between academic institutions, government bodies, and European partners in responding to evolving security challenges and protecting vulnerable communities.
